Honoring Our Legacy, Advancing the Future

Founded in 1839 as the Home for the Relief of Aged Indigent Black Persons, Lincoln Hospital has stood as a beacon of compassion, resilience, and medical progress. Over time, the institution evolved, becoming The Colored Home and Hospital in 1882 and later relocating to the South Bronx in 1899. With this move, the hospital embraced its mission as a general hospital open to all, while honoring its enduring roots in service to the underserved.

Today, Lincoln Medical Center remains deeply connected to its history while serving as a leading acute care facility and Regional Perinatal Center in New York City. With more than 1,500 births annually, a high-volume emergency department, and a richly diverse patient population, Lincoln continues to provide world-class training in women’s health.
