🩺 Life as a Third-Year OBGYN Resident at Lincoln Medical Center

When I first started residency at Lincoln Medical Center, I knew I was stepping into a program with a rich legacy and a deep commitment to serving the Bronx community. Now, as a third-year resident, I can confidently say that this experience has shaped me in ways I never imagined—both professionally and personally.

🌆 A Day in the Life

My days start early, often before sunrise. Whether I’m on labor and delivery, in the OR, or covering clinic, each rotation brings its own rhythm. Third year is when things start to click—you’ve built your foundation, and now you’re refining your skills, making independent decisions, and mentoring junior residents.

On L&D, I might be managing complex deliveries, performing cesarean sections, or guiding patients through some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. In clinic, I see everything from prenatal visits to gynecologic consults, and I’ve learned how to balance efficiency with empathy.

🧠 Learning Never Stops

Lincoln’s high patient volume and diverse pathology mean there’s never a dull moment. I’ve encountered rare cases, managed high-risk pregnancies, and scrubbed into surgeries that pushed my limits. Our weekly didactics, simulation labs, and case-based discussions keep us sharp and supported.

Faculty here are deeply invested in our growth. They challenge us, but they also listen. I’ve had mentors who’ve helped me navigate tough clinical decisions and career planning alike.

🤝 Community & Camaraderie

Residency is intense, but what makes Lincoln special is the sense of community. My co-residents are my second family—we celebrate wins together and lean on each other during the hard days. We share meals, stories, and the occasional vent session after a long shift.

Serving the Bronx has also been incredibly meaningful. Our patients are resilient, diverse, and trusting. I’ve learned how to provide culturally competent care and advocate for those who often face systemic barriers to health.

🎯 Looking Ahead

As I prepare for fellowship applications and consider my next steps, I feel confident in the training I’ve received. Lincoln has given me the clinical skills, emotional resilience, and leadership experience to thrive wherever I go next.

To anyone considering this program: be ready to work hard, learn deeply, and grow in ways you didn’t expect. Lincoln isn’t just a hospital—it’s a place where you become the physician you were meant to be.
